My Background: I have a Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and previously taught college English at the University of Alabama, Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College. My deep interest in environmentally-friendly
living began while I was pregnant with my daughter in 1997. I started
my first business on the internet while living in Portland, Oregon,
the Mecca for environmentally-friendly consumers. I made and sold "high
tech" waterproof/breathable cloth diaper covers to customers all over
the country. In hindsight, I realize that I found my knack for marketing
with my internet business. I enjoyed creating banner ads with copy like: "If it's good enough for Mt. Everest, it's good enough for
your baby's bottom." Professional Development I moved to Billings, Montana in January 2006, and completed a six-month internship with Skinner Benoit Public Relations, a busy firm whose two principals, Corby Skinner and Kathleen Benoit, have years of experience in marketing and public relations. My freelance writing business began in October of 2006 and very quickly morphed into a marketing communications consultancy for green businesses. I began approaching businesses when I saw their need for effective marketing materials promoting their services. My work with promoting the sustainability initiatives for the Yellowstone Business Partnership led me to develop my knowledge on sustainability issues. Latest Endeavors I'm currently enrolled in the University of Oregon's Sustainability Leadership Certificate Program and plan to complete the program in 2010. I also moved back to Portland to pursue a larger communications client base and have begun offering consulting services and training to organizations wanting to become more sustainable in their operations. I'm also the Marketing and Membership Manager for the International Society of Sustainability Professionals. Memberships Yellowstone Business Partnership International Society of Sustainability Professionals
Green Drinks Billings: I formed the first Montana chapter of Green Drinks International, a social and business networking group meant to bring environmentally friendly people from all walks of life together. Chapters in Helena, Bozeman, Red Lodge, Livingston and Missoula have since started. I produced the Billings eNewsletter
to keep members informed of green happenings around town and schedule
monthly Gatherings, including recruiting sponsors to host the events.
